MS Powerpoint: Change the font size of all slides (within 10 seconds)

We had 50 slides in our presentation and had to increase the font size of all the slides then and there. Wow what a situation! don't worry you can do it in 10 seconds.

Solution: If you change the font size or colour in the Master Slide, all the slides which are linked to that master slide will change.

You must use Master Slide in every presentation. Open a new file in MS PowerPoint. Go to View -> Slide Master (in 2007). Go to View -> Master -> Slide Master (in 2003)

 

 

There is one theme slide (the first slide on top left) under which there are various layouts. The first layout is the title layout which is linked to make our first slide. The second layout is linked to the most popular layout for body (a header followed by a list of bullets).

All we have to do is to make a change in these layouts.

Go to the second layout under the theme slide (just below the title layout). You can click on the text box and make it bold and change the font size and colour. You can also add a picture/logo here.

Now exit the Slide Master view (Close master view under Slide Master tab). Now add a new slide to the presentation. Right click on the slide on the left panel. Choose the second layout from this list. This is the layout we just made changes to. This is how we apply a layout to the main slide. That's it.

Summary

It is advisable to make all PPTs using Master Slide. This way, you can save a lot of time if you have to change the font type, colour or size later. You can also add a logo on Master Slide and it will reflect on all the slides automatically. You can then delete it, if you want, by just going to the Master Slide. Need not go to each slide and waste time.

Recently I came across a wonderful site, who is providing free SAP – IDES access to n number of users. It is totally free for all and indeed to use this service you need to register with them from the links provided below.

It is helping me a lot and in fact helps to all the SAP consultants who want to enhance there skill and knowledge in other areas. Once you successfully registered you will get an instance mail saying it is in process, with in a day you will get a mail with your SAP User-ID and important links to access the server.

Here there is one important thing to note that your user will be locked at the end of each day(mid-night) and password reset. Everyday you need to request for a password.

Windows 7 notices but does not 'see' external usb hard drive

Plug in the external USB hard drive.

Right mouse click on My Computer 

Left click on Manage 

Double click on Storage

Double click on Disk Management 

Disk 0 is Hard Drive Partitions.

Disk 1 will display the SIZE of the external device with no name

Right mouse click the blue colored bar              on Disk 1 

Left click on Mark Partition as Active 

Left click on Change Drive Letter and Paths

Right click the “Add” button  - Right click OK 

Following is the end result. The external USB device should now have a drive letter.

How to share Wi-Fi in Windows 8 with Internet connection sharing (ICS)

1. Launch a command prompt with administrator privileges. 

(Type cmd on the Start Screen, right-click the icon, and click Run as Administrator.)

2. Type netsh wlan show drivers and verify if Hosted network supported says Yes. If it says No, you are done. Your NIC doesn’t support Wi-Fi sharing.

3. Type netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Hotspot key=12345678

 (Note that you can replace “Hotspot” and the security key with your favorite settings.)

4. Type netsh wlan start hostednetwork

5. Open the Network and Sharing Center in the Control Panel. 

(Type Control Panel on the Start Screen and then Network in the Control Panel search box.) Then, click Change adapter settings.

 6. Now comes the part that appears to be different in Windows 8 than in previous Windows versions. You will notice that a new network adapter appeared, called Local Area Network Connection, followed by a number that can be different from computer to computer. The device name is Microsoft Hosted Virtual Network Adapter. The ssid you used above (Hotspot in this guide) will appear under the name. If you see Identifying under its icon or just Enabled, be patient and wait until Hotspot (the ssid is used in step 3) appears.

[You may rename this as "Local Area Connection for HotSpot" for ease of use]

7. Right-click the network adapter that is connected to the Internet and select Properties. 

(This can be an Ethernet adapter, a mobile network adapter, or your phone that is connected through USB. In this guide, it is my Samsung phone.)

8. Click the Sharing tab and then enable Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection.

9. In Windows 7, if I remember it right (correct me if I’m wrong), you would have selected the Wi-Fi adapter under Home Networking Connection. If you do this in Windows 8, you will be able to establish a Wi-Fi connection to your Windows 8 Access Point, but your client won’t receive an IP address through the Windows 8 DHCP server. Thus you have to select the Local Area Network Connection adapter I mentioned in step 6 as your Home Networking Connection.

I find it quite amazing that it is so complicated to share an Internet connection through Wi-Fi in Windows 8.

Have you bought a power tool or appliance from US and brought it to India ? Like me, were you tempted to plug it in at the first available opportunity ? Well, never do that. Never. In the best interest of your tool / electronics, you need to ensure they are readily suited for use under Indian Power conditions. If not, there are few things that you are expected to know and adhere to.

First and foremost, understand the power requirements of the tool from the manual.

And here are the questions you need to ask and understand before you can plug in that tool / appliance of yours.

1. The specification in the tool manual says 120v. Does it make my tool readily usable in India ?

No. The operating voltage in India is 240v. And since the tool requirement is only 120v, there is every bit chance that it might not work or go kaput if you directly plug it in.

2. How do I then use the tool here in India ?

Stepdown voltage transformers are available in your local electronics store, specifically for requirements like this. They help in converting the 240V power into 120v.

3. Is voltage the only parameter I need to look at ?

No. You need to look at the wattage specification as well. Your transformer wattage should necessarily be equal to or more than the value mentioned in the manual.

4. There is no watt mentioned in the manual. What do I do ?

Look for amps specification and as high school physics would have taught you, Watt = volt X amps. So in the above case, the wattage is 120 x 1.8 = 216 W. That means the transformer should support wattage greater than 216 W.

5. What is the cost of a step down transformer ?

The transformers for lower watt requirements are available as plug in adaptors and cost about Rs.300 to Rs.350. The one you see in the picture below (250W) costed me Rs.950 and looks like a mini stabilizer. So, anywhere between Rs.300 to Rs.1200 depending on your requirement.

This is basic physics that I didn't know and had trouble doing my research when I received a power tool as a gift. So hoping this post is of some help to someone with a new tool and the desire to DIY.

How to disable Protected Mode for Adobe Flash Player

Usually Flash Player hangs Firefox or other browsers.
This is usually un-avoidable as it just happens.
This is while you load pages that have rich flash content.
The only resort for you is to close the browser.

But by doing the following you can avoid the crashes!
Trust me, by disabling the Protected mode, it may do wonders. 

To disable Protected Mode, add the following line to your mms.cfg file located in:

Windows 32bit: C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash
Windows 64bit: C:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash

ProtectedMode=0

If the mms.cfg file does not exist, create one using any standard text editor (e.g.. notepad)


Depending on your operating system, you might need to first save the mms.cfg file to a writable location (such as your documents or desktop folder) and then copy the file into the destination folder using Windows Explorer.


To re-enable Protected Mode, simply remove the line from the mms.cfg file.
